Daily cash and bank

Daily is the first group in the Banking & cash menu. It holds the five screens for the money that moves every day. They cover till cash waiting to be sorted, expenses paid now, transfers between your accounts, other money in and out, and counting the cash in a drawer. This page only shows you around. It posts nothing to your accounts. Each screen has its own page, linked below.

  • Start the day’s money work from one place. The menu under the page title has three groups: Daily, Cards and cheques, and Accounts.
  • Opening Banking & cash does not land on a Daily screen. It opens Cash and bank accounts, which is in the Accounts group. Choose Daily to reach the screens below.
  • Each menu entry shows a short note under its name. The note is a reminder of what the screen is for.
  • The other groups are covered on their own pages: Card payouts and Cheques in Cards and cheques, and Cash and bank accounts, Cashbook and Reconciliation in Accounts.
Screen What it’s for The action you start there Where to read more
Cash review Sort the cash taken from or put into the till. Cash that nobody has sorted yet is Pending review. Once sorted it is Classified. A cancelled movement is Cancelled Open a movement to say what it was for Cash review
Expenses Costs you paid at once, from a cash or bank account Record an expense Expenses
Transfers Move money between your own cash and bank accounts New transfer Transfers
Money in or out Owner money, bank charges, interest, loans, and the starting balance of an account Record, and on the Opening balance tab, Record opening balance Money in or out
Cash counts Check the cash in a drawer against what your books expect, and keep the count Start cash count Cash counts

On Cash review, the page says that sorting a movement never moves the cash again. The cash already left or entered the drawer at the till. Sorting only records what it was for.

Nothing is posted from this page. Choosing a screen in the menu changes no accounts. What each screen posts when you finish an entry:

Screen Posts?
Cash review Posts The amount moves out of Pending POS Cash to the purpose you choose. The drawer’s cash does not move again. See Cash review
Expenses Posts The cost goes up and the cash or bank account goes down. See Expenses
Transfers Posts One account goes down and the other goes up. See Transfers
Money in or out Posts One entry with two lines: the cash or bank account, and a fixed account for the reason you pick. See Money in or out
Cash counts Only a difference A count that matches your books posts nothing. A shortage or an overage posts one entry between the drawer’s cash account and Cash Over and Short. See Cash counts
Place What changes
Menu under the page title The group you are in is marked, and so is the screen inside it
Address of the page Each screen keeps its own address, so a bookmark opens the same screen again
Cashbook An entry that moves a cash or bank account appears as a movement of that account
